Richard Scrivanich, CPA, is the Managing Partner of Harvey & Parmelee LLP. Rich joined the firm in 1982 and has been a partner since 1989. He provides accounting, audit, tax, and business advisory services to a diverse clientele including high net worth individuals, trusts and estates, non-profit organizations, employee benefit plans, manufacturers, retailers, wholesalers, and professional and other service industries. He also serves as trustee on trusts and his special expertise is in coordinated tax planning and compliance for closely held companies and their owners, as well as estate and trust accounting and related administration..

Rich has a Master of Science in Taxation degree from Golden Gate University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He has also received a Certificate of Educational Achievement in Tax Planning and Advising for Closely- Held Businesses from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. His professional affiliations include memberships in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Rich understands the importance of serving the local community and is involved with local charities and non-profit organizations. He has previously served on the Board of Directors as well as Treasurer for the Whittier Host Lions Club, Whittier Host Lions Club Foundation, Stretcher Bearer Ministries, and the Whittier Chamber of Commerce. In addition, he has been for many years and still is the contributing author of the monthly Tax Tips article published in the Whittier Chamber of Commerce Newspaper.

 


 

Debi Rhinehart, CPA

Debi Rhinehart, CPA, joined the firm in 1995 and has been a partner since 2006. She serves a wide variety of clients including individuals, trusts, non-profits, and small businesses. She currently serves as trustee on a number of trusts. Her experience includes income tax preparation; tax planning; estate tax returns & estate planning; trust allocations; compilation, review & audit preparation; and CA probate court accounting. She has also received a QuickBooks ProAdvisor Certification and has assisted many clients with QuickBooks setup and assistance. Debi also oversees all computer and information technology resources of the firm.

Debi graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Biola University in 1993. She is currently a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants (CSCPA). In addition to her experience with Harvey & Parmelee LLP, she has also worked as an Accounting Supervisor for a large aerospace manufacturing company.

Valerie Sullivan, CPA, joined the firm in 1987 and has been a partner since 2006. She serves a broad spectrum of clientele including high net worth individuals, estates and trusts, manufacturers, commercial real estate rentals and management, and other professional and service industries. Her special expertise is in tax planning for ministers, trust accounting and administration, and accounting and tax planning for closely held companies and their owners. She also serves as trustee on many trusts created by clients and deceased clients and is experienced in preparing trust accounting's in accordance with Probate Code requirements.

Valerie has a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Leadership from BIOLA University and, in addition to being licensed by the State of California as a Certified Public Accountant, is also a California Licensed Professional Fiduciary. She has also been certified as a National Certified Guardian by the Center for Guardianship Certification and has received Certificates in Professional Fiduciary Management for both Conservators and Trustees from California State University, Fullerton.

She is currently a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the California Society of Certified Public Accountants (CSCPA), the National Guardianship Association (NGA) and the Professional Fiduciary Association of California (PFAC).

Valerie enjoys serving the local community and is involved with local charities and non-profit organizations. She is currently on the Board of Directors for the Whittier Pregnancy Care Clinic (WPCC) and is on the Board of Trustees for the Whittier Evangelical United Methodist Church (WEUMC) in addition to serving as the treasurer for the Friendship Circle of the WEUMC.

Jocelyn Bates, CPA, joined the firm in 2007. Her experience includes income tax preparation for corporations, individuals, and trusts. She also has extensive experience with monthly accounting for personal and business clientele including compilation and review services.

She graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce with a major in Accounting from the Ateneo de Davao University in the Philippines in 1993. She is fluent in Tagalog/Filipino. Prior to joining Harvey & Parmelee LLP, she had eleven years of experience with both local and national public accounting firms including compilation, review, and audit services, income tax preparation, and trust accounting of pension plans.

Genno Coppa, CPA (Inactive), joined the firm in 2000 and retired as a partner in 2008. He has served a wide variety of clients throughout a career starting in 1957 working with small business including individuals, corporations, partnerships estates and trusts, manufacturers and professionals. His experience includes income tax preparation, estate tax preparation, estate tax returns, compilations, reviews and audits.

Genno has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Florida in 1957. He is currently a life member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants. Prior to his affiliation with Harvey & Parmelee LLP, he was a partner in various local Certified Public Accounting firms in the Southern California Area.

 

 

 

Kenneth Golden, EA

Kenneth Golden, EA joined the firm in 2014 when the San Marino CPA firm McGinley & Co. combined its practice with Harvey & Parmelee. Ken had been with McGinley & Co. since 1985. Ken has a broad range of tax experience, and specializes in tax planning and compliance for high net worth individuals, estates and trusts. He has had notable success in the representation of individuals and estates in their tax audits by the Internal Revenue Service and Franchise Tax Board.

Prior to joining McGinley & Co., Ken was with a firm of professional business consultants that specialized in the medical field. He was manager of the accounting department, tax department and data processing department.

Ken spent three years in the United States Army, Signal Corps and received a top secret security clearance. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona in 1974. His studies included engineering and business administration with a major in accounting. Ken received his enrollment to practice before the Internal Revenue Service in 1978.

Robert Houston joined the firm in 2014 when the San Marino CPA firm McGinley & Co. combined its practice with Harvey & Parmelee. Bob had been with McGinley & Co. since 2001. Bob has extensive experience serving high net worth families, closely held small businesses, and estates and trusts. He has been active serving nonprofit organizations throughout his career, and has specialized in the real estate, gaming, entertainment, and manufacturing industries

Highlights of his career have been drafting tax legislation with a lobbyist on behalf of the Hawaii Sugar Planters Association, representation of the purchaser in what was at the time the single largest real estate transaction in San Diego County history, and representation of an actor in a tax audit that lead to a landmark Board of Equalization tax case.

Bob graduated Beta Gamma Sigma from University of Southern California in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He was a senior tax manager with Price Waterhouse and Arthur Andersen prior to joining McGinley & Co.

Bob is active with San Marino non-profit organizations. He is the accountant of the San Marino Athletics Association, is a member of the Board of Directors of San Marino Chamber of Commerce and San Marino Historical Society, and is a member of San Marino Rotary Club.

 

 

 

Bill Mochon, CPA

Bill Mochon, CPA, joined the firm in 1999. He is licensed in both California and Hawaii and has over 40 years of experience in public accounting and income taxation. Prior to joining Harvey & Parmelee LLP, he was a sole practitioner for 27 years, after serving 6 years on the staff of the firm of Deliotte & Touche LLP, one of the nations five largest CPA firms. He is well versed with individual, partnership, corporation, trust and estate accounting, and tax situations. He is a diligent researcher and excellent problem solver. He has served as president of the Whittier Sunrise Rotary Club and is a Past Exalted Ruler of Fullerton Elks Lodge.

 

 

Michael Parmelee, CPA

Michael Parmelee, CPA is a former partner and owner who retired from the company in 2010 but continues as an employee to provide part-time consulting and tax services to the firm. Mike started with the firm in 1965. He is licensed as a CPA both in California and Colorado and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants.

With 49 years of experience in taxes and accounting and as a former trustee on many trusts, Mike continues to assist not only with income tax preparation for individuals, trusts and estates, but also with trust administration, division of trusts into sub-trusts, estate taxes, generation-skipping taxes, gift taxes and Probate Code accountings to trust and estate beneficiaries. He additionally assists with tax preparation for charitable remainder trusts and private foundations.

He is a graduate of Whittier College and a past President of the Whittier-Rio Hondo Kiwanis Club, a former chairman of the Whittier Area CPA’s, a former instructor in income taxes at Whittier College and former managing partner of the firm.

 

 

 

Sarah Pierce, CPA

Sarah Pierce, CPA, joined the firm in 2005. Her experience includes income tax preparation for individuals, trusts, partnerships, corporations, and not-for-profit organizations. She has assisted in the preparation of trust accountings in accordance with California probate requirements as well as provided litigation support services. She also has experience in providing compilation, review, and audit services for a variety of clients, including manufacturing, trusts, and not-for profit organizations. She also has broad knowledge of multiple years of QuickBooks, including assistance with initial setup and conversion, business training, on-going maintenance, and troubleshooting. In addition, she is currently serving as the firm’s I.T. Manager including the maintenance of our Windows Server and multiple desktops. She oversees all upgrades to software and any troubleshooting of problems.

She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics with the Leadership Studies Sequence from Claremont McKenna College in 2002. Prior to joining Harvey & Parmelee LLP, her background was in the private sector, including manufacturing analysis and project management. In addition, she strongly believes in the firm’s values of providing service in the local community and is currently active in Front of House Management for Masquer Ministries.

Kathy Renner joined the firm in 2015. Kathy has over ten years of experience in accounting, preparing financial statements, corporate tax returns, and partnership tax returns. She graduated from National University, San Diego with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting, is a Quickbooks Proadvisor, and is currently a CPA candidate.
